Isnt this VERY Illegal????
The following sites are on E-Bay, both selling a program to basically steal somebodies account... I do beleive that is illegal and something should be done about this.
<LINK REMOVED BY FROG AS PER THE RULES>
I am not positive if they work, however IF they do... That is something that needs attention taken to it first thing. Otherwise ANet will have a very large security issue on their hands.

I'm not exactly sure why this is dangerous; no one knows your account name in GW anyway, unless you tell them.

If the people who made the auctions were smart the program would also require the person trying to get the password to put in their username and password.

All it is is a program to find passwords. I'm sure only idiots will download it, and as long as they don't have your email, you're fine.

Why is it that so many boys dreaming of shooting someone worship the mighty Glock? Could it be they can't figure out how to work a thumb safety?
Here's a thought. Spend less time talking about shooting anyone, hope, pray the day never comes when you have to, train for that day anyway, and if it does try not to hit anybody else.
As to the OP: It's not illegal to make a program that does this, although there's a decent chance it will be soon. It IS illegal to USE it, at least as far as other peoples property is concerned.
It COULD be considered illegal today, if you could prove that it has no legitimate uses, the same way that file sharing is getting hit now.
Bottom line? You can't get the law to take ANYTHING about video games seriously. There have been a number of game makers guilty of false advertising at the least (this one included), and a few probably guilty of outright fraud. So far the courts have given one gigantic yawn.
I suspect that to change in another few years, whenever the law realizes just how much money is changing hands. In fact, all this "violence in games" nonsense will probably be the catalyst. I also suspect that sooner or later this "we can do anything we want to our product anytime we want, because you never actualy 'own' it" nonsense to be challenged, and hopefully found illegal.

1. Not sure what you're talking about here
2. You are correct. Yeah the program will find a password for you, but only if you already have that person's login username (their email address). There's no way to tell what a person's email addy is if they don't tell you because the email isn't visiblibly associated with that player's characters.
3. It will only take months and months if the person's account you're trying to crack is a paranoid security freak. A good brute force password cracker will only take about 2-3 hours to crack a password that is composed entirely of letters of the alphabet, no matter the length of the password itself. And even then it'll only take that long if the person chose a password that isn't a known word in the english language. If they chose a password that contains letters and numbers, is the maximum length allowed by Guild Wars, and doesn't contain any known words, then it might, MIGHT, take as long as you said.
Just thought I'd include my 2 cents.

i think he means that the program's just a farce trying to get you to enter YOUR OWN password so he/she can steal your account, instead of actually stealing someone else's account.

The 1st ebay link is no longer a valid auction

So the seller .. or ebay yanked it, the 2nd one is still open.
Agree with everyone, the key / username / password are not generated with each other in any way. The is no "save" password feature so the login is stored server side only. Have to agree about brute force or it "keylogs" your password when you knew it and then will give it back to you if you forget later... or it just steals your account info.

Time to hijack this post:
I used to hate the Glock because it was an ugly hunk of metal and plastic. Then I trained with a Glock 23. It's actually a terrific tool. Under stress it's easier to manipulate quickly for malfunction drills . Also the little bugger is a workhorse - over the course of 4 days after constant hard manipulation, throwing magazines in the dirt and constant drills I didn't have a single FTF, double-feed or stovepipe and the Glock kept pounding out JHPs as fast as I could fire. Did I mention this was a new Glock 23 - straight out of the box without any work done on it?
It's trigger could be better, but it's not that bad. Of course my friend's Jardine Custom 1911 has a much better trigger - but it's also a $2800 gun. I know the Glock performs under stress - that's why it's the first weapon I'd reach for.
I still cherish my tuned up Mk 1 Browning Hi Power, my HK USP Compact .45, my S&W M-19 .357 and other weapons - so I'm glad I don't have to choose - but that Glock is one undeniably good tool.

The $100 question is. . . will the program actually work? What if let's say you sell an account on ebay, and know the email address that the account transferred to? if the program can come up the w/ the password, you could technically hijack the account and change the password. At least until the victim realizes the password got changed, and goes through AN support to retrieve that password.
Of course, during this period, the devious "hacker" could have done who knows what to that account. . .

That depends on how 'hard' of a password one has in their account. If it is just letters and numbers then it could be hacked in a few hours as ShadowStorm said. Once you start adding symbols and ASCII characters as well as increasing the length then the time it takes to hack it by brute force increases.
It is much easier to use social engineering to get one's password than some program such as this.

LOL. He probably doesnt even give it to you. He says "no negative feedback allowed" also...
You would have to be of a very low intelligence to try and steal an account..
